Friday, Nov 17, 2023

The father of Future Rave has done it again

David Guetta was crowned The World’s #1 DJ by readers of DJ Mag this week in the 2023 edition of their Top 100 DJs poll.

This is the fourth time the global icon has taken the top spot, with his first reign coming 12 years ago in 2011. His second and third years at the top came when he was voted #1 B2B in 2020 and 2021.

Over 1.3 million votes were cast in this year’s poll, with music fans in over 237 countries having their say. The 2024 vote puts David Guetta just one place behind the most overall wins in the poll, behind Armin van Buuren, who has topped the chart five times.

Speaking about his win to DJ Mag, the Frenchman said; “It’s great because I feel like every time I’m on the top of the Top 100, it’s for a different reason. You know, the two previous times were probably thanks to Future Rave. This time is probably thanks to “I’m Good” and those big crossover records. I love that I can express different feelings in different ways.”

David Guetta collected the award during an incredible show broadcast live from Ibiza. The show featured performances by acclaimed artists from around the world, including ALOK, Carl Cox, Nora en Pure, and DESIREE and headlined by an epic DJ set from the winner himself performing live from a breathtaking cliffside Ibizan Villa. The awards ceremony was broadcast on BBC Radio 1 and hotels by Guetta’s Future Rave resident Arielle Free.

While accepting the award, Guetta took the time to shout out his Future Rave concept that has been electrifying the Hï Ibiza dancefloor throughout the summer. Speaking to DJ Mag, he said, “It’s been nice to almost, let’s say, go back to my foundations and talk to only DJs rather than to be on the radio or make music just for streams. It was just music for the community only, and that gave me a lot of happiness and satisfaction. And also, I think it had a big influence on the scene.”
